The Bible


1.     Romans 11 : 33, 34, 36 (to 1st .)

33     O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34     For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?

36     For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever.


2.     Proverbs 2 : 1-9

1     My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2     So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3     Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4     If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5     Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

6     For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

7     He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

8     He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

9     Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.


3.     Genesis 41 : 15 (Pharaoh)-27, 29, 30, 33-36, 38-40

15     …Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

16     And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

18     And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

19     And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20     And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

21     And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22     And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

23     And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

24     And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but

there was none that could declare it to me.

25     And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26     The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

27     And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

29     Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

30     And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

33     Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

34     Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

35     And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

36     And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

38     And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39     And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40     Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.


4.     James 3 : 13-17

13     Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14     But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15     This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16     For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17     But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.


5.     James 1 : 5-8, 17

5     If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6     But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7     For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8     A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

17     Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.


6.     Philippians 4 : 7 (the), 8

7     …the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8     Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.



Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures


1.     275 : 14-24

All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.

Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, — that is, all power, all presence, all Science. Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind.


2.     205 : 32-3

When we fully understand our relation to the Divine, we can have no other Mind but His, — no other Love, wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no consciousness of the existence of matter or error.


3.     259 : 22-6

Mortal thought transmits its own images, and forms its offspring after human illusions. God, Spirit, works spiritually, not materially. Brain or matter never formed a human concept.

Vibration is not intelligence; hence it is not a creator. Immortal ideas, pure, perfect, and enduring, are transmitted by the divine Mind through divine Science, which corrects error with truth and demands spiritual thoughts, divine concepts, to the end that they may produce harmonious results.

Deducing one's conclusions as to man from imperfection instead of perfection, one can no more arrive at the true conception or understanding of man, and make himself like it, than the sculptor can perfect his outlines from an imperfect model, or the painter can depict the form and face of Jesus, while holding in thought the character of Judas.


4.     555 : 6-15

An inquirer once said to the discoverer of Christian Science: "I like your explanations of truth, but I do not comprehend what you say about error." This is the nature of error. The mark of ignorance is on its forehead, for it neither understands nor can be understood. Error would have itself received as mind, as if it were as real and God-created as truth; but Christian Science attributes to error neither entity nor power, because error is neither mind nor the outcome of Mind.


5.     62 : 20-28

We must not attribute more and more intelligence to matter, but less and less, if we would be wise and healthy. The divine Mind, which forms the bud and blossom, will care for the human body, even as it clothes the lily; but let no mortal interfere with God's government by thrusting in the laws of erring, human concepts.

The higher nature of man is not governed by the lower; if it were, the order of wisdom would be reversed.


6.     283 : 6-12

Mind is the same Life, Love, and wisdom "yesterday, and to-day, and forever." Matter and its effects — sin, sickness, and death — are states of mortal mind which act, react, and then come to a stop. They are not facts of Mind. They are not ideas, but illusions. Principle is absolute. It admits of no error, but rests upon understanding.


7.     82 : 31-5

In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one. What the prophets of Jehovah did, the worshippers of Baal failed to do; yet artifice and delusion claimed that they could equal the work of wisdom.


8.     298 : 13-20

Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality. Material sense expresses the belief that mind is in matter. This human belief, alternating between a sense of pleasure and pain, hope and fear, life and death, never reaches beyond the boundary of the mortal or the unreal. When the real is attained, which is announced by Science, joy is no longer a trembler, nor is hope a cheat.


9.     2 : 23 (God is intelligence)-3

God is intelligence. Can we inform the infinite Mind of anything He does not already comprehend? Do we expect to change perfection? Shall we plead for more at the open fount, which is pouring forth more than we accept? The unspoken desire does bring us nearer the source of all existence and blessedness.

Asking God to be God is a vain repetition. God is "the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;" and He who is immutably right will do right without being reminded of His province. The wisdom of man is not sufficient to warrant him in advising God.


10.     505 : 16-28

Spirit imparts the understanding which uplifts consciousness and leads into all truth. The Psalmist saith: "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." Spiritual sense is the discernment of spiritual good. Understanding is the line of demarcation between the real and unreal. Spiritual understanding unfolds Mind, — Life, Truth, and Love, — and demonstrates the divine sense, giving the spiritual proof of the universe in Christian Science.

This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things brought to light.
